Basics of Grant Proposal Development

This workshop will cover the nuts and bolts of composing different kinds of proposals - start up, maintenance, organizational research and preparing the typical components of a proposal - the cover letter, abstract, statement of need, and evaluation.


Financial Management

This workshop will present an introductory level overview of concepts and tools used for effective financial management.


Documentation - Telling Your Story

This workshop will focus on the importance and usefulness of a quality record keeping system. It will look at best practices in maintaining effective records of programming components, activities and services.


Building Partnerships

September 24, 2010, Deara Threet and Mike Vogler, Presenters

Partnerships between two or more organizations can be an effective way to broaden your customers' access to important supports and services. This workshop will cover several types of organizational partnerships, and will examine tools to formalize relationships between partnering organizations.


   

Workshop Presenters

Kathy Barbeire has 10 years experience developing effective marketing strategies for nonprofits in central Arkansas and he Mississippi Delta region.  She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the UALR Rhetoric and Writing Program. Kathy has eveloped web-communication strategies for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Our House shelter and BCD, Inc.  She is currently the director of marketing and public relations at The Salvation Army Central Arkansas Area Command.

Freeman McKindra, Sr. is a native of Arkansas. After completing high school, McKindra studied at Arkansas A.M.& N. College of Pine Bluff, AR, Howard University in Washington, D.C., and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL.  He has more than 30 years experience with government and private companies as a community and organizational development consultant.

Hayse "Q" Miller is the coordinator of the Region 9 Prevention Resource Center for the Family Service Agency. He considers his proudest moment as being the son of Betty Jean.

W.J. Monagle has served as Executive Director of the Little Rock Workforce Investment Board since October 2007. He served as Operations and Administrative Coordinator for the City of Little Rock's Department of Community Programs from 2001 to 2007.

Derek Moore currently serves as Student Success Coach and Adjunct Instructor at Pulaski Technical College. He received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from UAPB and a Master of Public Administration from UALR. Derek has worked in the education, training and employment sector for the last 15 years.

Martie North currently serves as Vice President and Director of Community Development for Bank of the Ozarks, a $3.2 billion dollar financial institution based in Little Rock. North is a graduate of Harding University and has a Bachelor of Science degree along with numerous national certifications in homebuyer education, housing counseling, credit counseling, and community/mortgage lending.

Mark Perry is Executive Director of New Futures for Youth, Inc. He earned a bachelor's degree from Hendrix College in 1987 and a doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin in 1991. Perry worked at New Futures from 1996 through 2000 as the agency's Manager of Research and Evaluation before becoming the Director in 2001.

Mike Pierce is Manager of Administrative Services for New Futures for Youth. He is an accountant with a master's in business administration. Prior to coming to New Futures in 1992, Pierce worked as an advocate in the Arkansas Attorney General's Office. He is currently responsible for New Futures' administrative functions and provides technical assistance to community-based organizations.

Loretta Pittman is the Research and Evaluation Analyst for New Futures for Youth, Inc. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi Valley State University in 1978 and worked at an insurance agency before coming to New Futures in 1990.

Deara Threet is a program specialist at New Futures for Youth, Inc. where she has worked since 1993. As program specialist she provides contractual and program monitoring, and technical assistance to community and faith-based afterschool programs. She has a bachelor's degree from Philander Smith College and is the former supervisor of documentation engineering and support systems at a high tech company in California's Silicon Valley.

Michael Vogler is Program Specialist for Integrated Services at New Futures for Youth. He has an M.S.W. in Program Management from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and served as assistant state director for SCAN Volunteer Service from 1979 to 1989. He came to New Futures in 1990 as director of Case Management.
