Arkansas Teen Sexual Activity Estimates

Estimates of the number of high school students that engage in risky sexual and sexual related behaviors has been compiled by New Futures for Youth for Arkansas counties. The estimates are based on U. S. Census 2006 population estimates for youth aged 14-17 (the general age range for Arkansas high school students), and responses given by a randomized sample of 1,608 Arkansas high school students to the 2007 Youth Risk Behavior Survey.

Characteristics of the randomized sample of YRBS respondents included:

Females 49%

9th Grade 27.6%
10th Grade 26.7%
11th Grade 24.3%
12th Grade 21.1%
Ungraded 0.2%

Black, Non-Hispanic 22.9%
Hispanic/Latino 3.4%
White, Non-Hispanic 69.2%
Multiple Races 3.2%
All Other Races 1.4%

The Youth Risk Behavior Survey was developed in 1990 by the National Centers for Disease Control and prevention to monitor priority health risk behaviors that contribute markedly to the leading causes of death, disability, and social problems among youth and adults in the United States.
